Waxing Aftercare: How to Care for Your Skin After a Wax
A great wax doesn’t end when you leave the treatment room, proper aftercare makes all the difference! Following a few simple guidelines can help calm freshly waxed skin, prevent irritation and ingrown hairs, and keep your skin smooth between appointments.
24 HOURS POST WAX
-
Give freshly waxed skin a chance to calm down by avoiding intense workouts and excessive sweating for 24 hours.
Heat, sweat and friction can irritate sensitive follicles and contribute to redness, bumps and breakouts.
-
Skip pools, hot tubs, saunas and steam rooms for the first 24 hours.
Freshly waxed follicles are more vulnerable to irritation, and exposure to heat, chlorine and bacteria can increase your chances of redness, bumps or inflammation.
-
After a Brazilian or bikini wax, we recommend avoiding sexual activity for 24 hours.
Friction, sweat and bacteria can irritate freshly waxed skin, so giving the area a little recovery time can help keep it calm and comfortable.
-
Keep your routine simple for the first 24 hours and avoid exfoliants, fragranced products, active ingredients and heavy lotions on freshly waxed skin.
After that initial recovery period, you can gradually return to your regular aftercare routine and begin gentle exfoliation.
-
Leave freshly waxed skin, and any stray hairs, alone!
Seriously…stop it!
Picking or tweezing can introduce bacteria and increase irritation, while shaving disrupts the hair growth cycle and can make your next wax less effective.
Let your skin recover and your hair grow naturally between appointments.
IN BETWEEN WAXES
-
Regular exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells that can trap new hair beneath the surface and lead to ingrown hairs.
Starting about 48 hours after your wax, gently exfoliate 2–3 times per week to help keep your skin smooth and your follicles clear.
-
Healthy, hydrated skin can make a big difference in your waxing results.
Moisturize regularly between appointments to keep skin soft and supple, which can help hair grow through the surface more easily and make your next wax more comfortable.
-
Don’t wait until an ingrown hair appears to start treating your skin.
Consistently using an ingrown-hair serum or treatment can help keep follicles clear, calm inflammation and prevent bumps before they start.
-
Let It Groww! Let it Growww! (This is what Elsa really meant…right?)
Put that razor down and resist the urge to shave or tweeze between appointments!
Removing hairs at different times disrupts the growth cycle and can leave you with uneven regrowth, making it harder to achieve consistently smooth results at your next wax.
-
Consistency is one of the best ways to get better results from waxing.
Scheduling your appointments every 4–6 weeks helps your hair stay on a more predictable growth cycle and can lead to smoother, longer-lasting results over time.
Pre-booking also makes it easier to snag the day and time that works best for you.
We recommend pre-booking during checkout so that your next appointment is on your radar before you leave the building!
When Should I Schedule My Next Wax?
For the best results, we typically recommend waxing every 4–6 weeks. Staying consistent helps get your hair onto a more predictable growth cycle, which can mean smoother results and less regrowth between appointments. Pre-book your next visit before you leave so your ideal day and time are already waiting for you.
